This page offers you access to different items connected with listening to Internet radio. It also contains some incidental information on radio and television stations that can be received via satellite or on traditional terrestrial channels.

Guessing your timezone

The HTML page sent to your browser (via HTTP) includes some Java Script code to determine your time zone so that any programme listing shows the correct times for your location. If Java Script does not work on your computer, an option box will appear so you can pick your time zone. Each time zone is listed under several different names, e.g. 'BST' is the same as 'Europe/London'. Java Script can, unfortunately, only determine the offset between your time zone and the general reference UTC. We then use the first matching time zone name. You may change this setting later.

Presetting your choices

Time zone

If your browser does not support Java Script you can pre-set your time zone manually by using a URL like this: https://iradio.crabdance.com?browsertimezone=Europe/Berlin

Carriers

If you would like to preset a check on all carriers, use this URL: https://iradio.crabdance.com?checkalldevices=

Combining all of the above

You can preset all of the options described above by adding one option to other using the "&" character like this: https://iradio.crabdance.com?browsertimezone=Europe/Berlin&checkalldevices=

The listings

Every listing can be reached by clicking on a button on the right. Before you click on it, you can narrow down the languages included in the listing. Initially, all languages are selected.

You may select several languages by pressing the Control key on your keyboard while clicking on the list of languages.

A setting of '--' marks programmes and stations without a clear or unique language setting. An example would be stations carrying a country's programmes in various foreign languages, changing the language every half hour or so.

You may also set a different time zone for this particular listing at this time.

How to listen

The streams included in the listings

The listing includes Internet streams on the right if I could find any.

The streams are shown:

You may access the streams by:

Software recommendations

If you have a problem listening to any of the streams, you might want to try VLC, a programme for accessing all kinds of media: films, songs and Internet streams.

Another very robust programme, simple but powerful, is MPV .

You can simply use the right mouse button to copy the link from the listing into the player.

Satellites and good old traditional radio

Many websites offer listings of radio stations worldwide.

Information on satellite channels based on a worldwide network of enthusiasts is available from Lyngemark Satellite; you may want to try their satellite listings by region. Just click on the region you are interested in at "Free Radio."

BTW, you may also want to look at their Internet streams listing.

The traditional alternatives include shortwave radio and regular AM and FM channels, listed here in German for Central Europe.

What's on now?

This is a dynamic list of programmes currently on air. The list is made by looking at all programmes (actually all broadcasts of all programmes) in my database, so please be patient until the page is loaded.

This static list inludes all stations with their streams.

This static list includes all programmes with the stations that carry them.

A useful script

My "I, Radio" package for the free operating system Debian Linux.

This is a minimalist script using the media player MPV .

You can give it any stream address to play or choose the stream from my list by its number.
